The Lady of the Camellias

A brand-new French musical adaptation of Alexandre Dumas fils' The Lady of the Camellias receives its world premiere in Suzhou this October.

Set in 19th-century Paris, the story follows Marguerite Gautier, a celebrated courtesan who falls in love with the young Armand Duval. Their relationship offers the possibility of a different life, but love collides with money, social convention and sacrifice in one of literature's most famous romantic tragedies.
Published in 1848, Dumas' novel has inspired countless adaptations around the world, most famously Giuseppe Verdi's opera La Traviata. This new production brings the story to the stage as a French-language musical, with an international creative team.

The production is particularly notable for Suzhou: these performances mark the musical's global premiere, before the production continues its life beyond the city.
