When Indian at the Cross opened its doors in Suzhou's Old Town in 2006, it became the city's first Indian restaurant, introducing authentic Indian cuisine to a city where it was virtually unknown. Nearly two decades later, now operating as Thali Kitchen, that tradition continues in SIP.
Authenticity has always been at the heart of the restaurant. The kitchen is led by experienced Indian chefs using imported spices and ingredients, with curries prepared from scratch rather than relying on pre-made sauces or curry powders. From rich curries and sizzling tandoori dishes to biryanis, freshly baked naan breads and traditional desserts, the extensive menu offers something for both first-time visitors and lifelong lovers of Indian cuisine.
Quality is equally important. All meat is halal and prepared in a dedicated halal kitchen. Boneless meat is used throughout the curry menu, with bone-in cuts reserved for dishes where the traditional recipe calls for them. Friendly, English-speaking front-of-house staff are always on hand to welcome guests and help newcomers navigate the extensive menu.
Over the years, Thali Kitchen has become a natural meeting place for Suzhou's large Indian community, while also earning a loyal following among other international residents. As appreciation for Indian cuisine continues to grow, increasing numbers of Chinese diners are discovering the flavours and variety that have made the restaurant a Suzhou favourite.
Nearly twenty years after Indian at the Cross first introduced authentic Indian cuisine to Suzhou, Thali Kitchen continues that tradition today — serving the food and hospitality that have made it a favourite with generations of Suzhou diners.

Every Friday evening, Thali Kitchen lays on a three-hour, all-you-can-eat Indian buffet.
The buffet includes a changing selection of starters, salads, curries, rice, freshly baked naan and desserts, with one drink included in the ¥138 price.

Thali Kitchen offers outside catering for private parties, company functions and larger events, and has previously catered for gatherings of more than 200 people.

Groups & Celebrations
Thali Kitchen is well suited to group dinners, birthday celebrations, company gatherings and other special occasions, with an extensive menu offering plenty of choice for both meat eaters and vegetarians. All meat served at Thali Kitchen is halal.
There's another advantage for groups with different tastes. Thali Kitchen and The Butcher's Hook are part of the same group and located just three floors apart in In City Mall. Guests dining at Thali Kitchen can also order from The Butcher's Hook menu, so steaks, burgers and other Western dishes can be served at the same table as curries, biryanis and tandoori dishes.
