Opened in 2025 on Yangcheng Lake Peninsula, Suzhou Toy Museum is a privately funded museum containing more than 10,000 toys and historical materials, tracing how toys have changed across generations.
The older exhibits range from traditional clay figures, cloth tigers, nine-linked rings and tangrams to vintage tin and wind-up toys. Historical material alongside the collection explores the development of Chinese toys, their design and their place in popular culture.
But this isn't exclusively a museum of old toys. The collection moves right through to toys and characters today's children will recognise, including Pokémon, Transformers, Marvel, LEGO, Pop Mart, LABUBU, Genshin Impact, Doraemon, Crayon Shin-chan, Disney and My Little Pony. There are even rare LEGO sets and displays exploring the development of Chinese animation.
The museum expanded significantly in July 2025, opening its second-floor exhibition space and redesigning parts of the ground floor. One of the more playful additions is a model train running around the ceiling, complete with its own Yangcheng Lake Peninsula station.
More than looking at toys
There are interactive activities too. Perler-bead DIY 拼豆DIY continues to be offered in 2026, while the museum has also organised children's cooking activities and other workshops. There's a café/light-refreshment area for families wanting to stay longer.
Suzhou Scene tip
This one isn't just for young children. The collection deliberately spans generations, so parents may find toys from their own childhood alongside the LEGO, Pokémon, Marvel and Pop Mart characters their kids recognise. With free admission, it's also an easy attraction to combine with other stops around Yangcheng Lake Peninsula.
