Suzhou Museum West

The much larger sister venue to the original Suzhou Museum, opened in 2021 at Shishan Culture Plaza. Designed by German architecture practice gmp, the museum consists of ten cube-like structures connected by glass corridors, creating a contemporary interpretation of Suzhou's traditional streets, waterways and smaller-scale buildings.

Where the original museum is particularly strong in art and historic collections, the West Museum provides a broader introduction to 10,000 years of Suzhou history, from prehistoric settlement through to 1911. Other galleries explore Suzhou craftsmanship and traditional arts, while an international cooperation gallery brings exhibitions developed with museums around the world.

There's also a substantial children's discovery area.
