Suzhou Museum

Suzhou's flagship museum and one of the city's architectural landmarks. The present museum was designed by I.M. Pei, the internationally renowned architect best known for the glass pyramid at the Louvre in Paris. Born into a prominent Suzhou family, Pei combined his modern geometric style with elements inspired by traditional Suzhou architecture and classical gardens.

The collections cover Suzhou's long history and artistic heritage, with particularly strong holdings of paintings, calligraphy, ceramics and traditional crafts. The museum complex also incorporates the historic Zhongwang Mansion (Prince Zhong's Mansion), providing a striking contrast with Pei's contemporary building.
