Kaixin Mahua Canal Theatre(Shi Lu)

Located near Shilu in Suzhou's old city, Kaixin Mahua Canal Theatre is a major performing arts venue presenting comedy, theatre, dance, concerts and family shows.

Formerly known as the Suzhou Performing Arts Center (苏州演艺中心), the venue reopened in its current form in 2024 following a major renovation. It is now operated by Kaixin Mahua, one of China's best-known theatre companies.

While Kaixin Mahua is particularly known for Chinese-language comedy, the theatre's programme is broader, with touring dance productions, concerts, children's shows and other live performances throughout the year.

The main auditorium seats around 1,000 people across two levels, with additional exhibition and activity spaces within the complex.

For international audiences, language accessibility varies by performance. Many plays and comedy shows are performed in Chinese, while concerts, dance and visual performances can often be enjoyed with little or no Chinese.
