The Humble Administrator's Garden (拙政园) is one of the most famous Suzhou attractions and one of the finest examples of a classical Chinese garden. The largest surviving classical garden in Suzhou, it dates back to the Ming dynasty and forms part of the UNESCO-listed Classical Gardens of Suzhou.
The garden is divided broadly into eastern, central and western sections, with the central water garden generally regarded as its core. Lotus is particularly important here, with many of the garden's buildings and views designed around the ponds. Suzhou Government Website
It's also exceptionally well placed for combining with Suzhou Museum, Lion Grove Garden and Pingjiang Road on the same visit.
Suzhou Scene Tip: Go early. The Humble Administrator's Garden is one of Suzhou's busiest attractions, and the experience is considerably better before the main tour groups arrive.
Visitors currently need to make a real-name, timed reservation 1–7 days in advance.
