China Suzhou Pingtan Museum(PingJiang Lu)

Dedicated to Suzhou Pingtan, the distinctive local storytelling and musical tradition combining spoken performance, singing and instruments including the pipa and sanxian.

The museum occupies the historic Shen Residence, just off Pingjiang Road, and holds more than 10,000 historic documents, books and other items connected with the development of Pingtan.

The Pingtan Museum is another living tradition rather than purely a museum display. The museum's Wuyuan Shenchu (吴苑深处) storytelling house hosts traditional Pingtan performances, giving visitors the opportunity to experience an art form that has been part of Suzhou cultural life for centuries.
