China Kunqu Museum(PingJiang Rd)

Dedicated to Kunqu, one of China's oldest surviving forms of opera and a performing tradition with particularly deep roots in Suzhou.

The museum occupies the historic Quanjin Guild Hall (全晋会馆), built by Shanxi merchants in Suzhou during the Qing dynasty. The historic building and its ornate theatre stage are attractions in their own right.

Displays introduce the history, costumes, music, staging and performance traditions of Kunqu, but this isn't purely a static museum. Its historic performance spaces are still used for live Kunqu performances and cultural activities, offering visitors a chance to experience the art form as well as learn about its history.
