SIX The Musical
One of the Biggest New Musicals of the Past Decade Comes to Suzhou
If you've never heard of SIX, think Henry VIII's six wives reimagined as a 21st-century girl group.
The Tudor queens take to the stage to tell their own stories through pop songs, comedy and a live concert-style performance — less traditional historical musical, more pop concert meets British history.
Created by Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss, SIX began life at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2017 before exploding onto the West End and Broadway and becoming an international phenomenon. Its Broadway production received eight Tony Award nominations, winning Best Original Score and Best Costume Design in 2022.
The show's six queens — Catherine of Aragon, Anne Boleyn, Jane Seymour, Anna of Cleves, Katherine Howard and Catherine Parr — compete to decide who suffered most at the hands of their infamous husband, before taking back control of their stories. Behind them is an all-female live band, known as the Ladies in Waiting.
And while you may not know the musical, plenty of people certainly know the music: the official SIX studio cast recording has now passed 5 billion streams.
The show is now embarking on its China tour, with Suzhou hosting the opening run and 14 performances across the National Day holiday. The production is performed entirely in English, with Chinese surtitles.
Duration: Approx. 80 minutes, no interval
Language: English with Chinese surtitles
There are also Queen Dress-Up performances on October 1 and October 4 at 19:30, plus special Sing-Along performances on October 4 and October 11 at 14:00.
